Hi there - Can I suggest a feature for future releases?
How about the ability to highlight a series of squares?
Users could highlight several (2 or 3) squares and then select the number to pencil that digit into those squares.
It could use a drag motion over the squares to highlight them - and then select the digit.
Selecting non-adjacent squares would be a bit trickier. Don't have a suggestion for that....

When evaluating new features we evaluate the benefit of the proposed feature vs. the effort required to implement it. In this case the effort far outweigh the benefit.

May I suggest using "digit first" entry mode as an alternative.
